There is no flat day in Sonoma County: the terrain is relentlessly rolling with punchy short steep climbs scattered between the big signature ascents. Course demands

The Gran and Growler courses pile climbing onto climbing in the Northern California coastal ranges — King Ridge Road is the defining 9-mile sustained ascent, but the Stewarts Point climbs and the Geysers (on the Growler) add another 3,000+ feet late in the ride when legs are already taxed. Coastal fog and variable spring temperatures can swing 20°F between morning and afternoon, while the exposed ridges accelerate dehydration.
